‘Get Set For School’!

Preparing your child for school can be a daunting task!

Our ‘Get Set for School’ program can help you and your child prepare for this big step.  It is a school readiness program full of fun and engaging activities for the children paired with a strong focus on sharing useful information and ideas with you.

What will my child learn?
One of our highly experienced speech language pathologists, Jennifer Ballantine, will be guiding your child’s learning.  Each day will include fun and engaging activities that aim to develop the following important school readiness skills:

  • Listening and attention
  • Understanding of language e.g. following directions, knowing school related vocabulary
  • Use of language e.g. answering questions, telling a short story
  • Pre-literacy skills e.g. counting syllables, letter and sound awareness
  • Social interaction and communication e.g. taking turns with others, asking for help

There will be time available at the end of every session for parents to discuss their child’s participation and progress with the speech language pathologist.  Handouts containing useful language, literacy and social development information along with suggestions for activities to try at home will also be provided.
